Editorials...to be honest, I find it hard to write an editorial about a given topic. I don't know why, but I would rather write a news story than an editorial. I started writing for our school paper when I was in the 4th grade, by that time we were already trained to compose news, feature stories, literary stuffs and editorials. I'm already happy to be able to write a news story and two poems during our seminar, but what left me frustrated was the 'writing-of-feature-news-and-editorial' part of the lesson. Giving your opinions on a certain topic is not really hard, what's hard is putting it into paper and trying your best for it not to sound too informal or well, for it not be offensive to some people. An editorial is the voice of the newspaper, which means you need to consider not only your opinion but the opinion of the staffs as well. Well, not most of the time the staffs agree with what you believe in, right? And another thing that you need to consider when writing editorials is that you need to fully understand and have a knowledge about the subject of the editorial you are about to write. You have to consider even the slightest of things to be able to write an accurate editorial.
Just the other day we had an assignment about composing your own editorials. Our teacher gave us 5 topics and told us to choose 1 out of that 5 and make an editorial out of it. I practically laughed myself off when I remembered that I was sleeping while the teacher is giving instructions (lol, the topic must have been too boring for me xD). Believe it or not, I even forgot that we had an assignment in Journalism, thanks to my classmate! xD If she had not asked about the kind of bond paper that we are required to use, I will never be able to remember that homework! Haha, I stated composing the editorial at around 11pm, so I was like,"WTH?! I NEED TO FINISH THIS QUICKLY!" But when I already finished my assignment, I feel so proud of myself! :)) Yehey! hahaha...
